Deaf Expo 2007
Coimbatore, India

2007. It all happened while engaged as a core faculty at the Indus Business Academy of Bangalore, still ranked among the top business schools of India. I received an invitation to participate at the International Deaf Expo happening at Coimbatore, India. My CEO Mr. Manish Jain encouraged me to attend since Deaf Support was already part of the business school’s CSR activity.

I flew down from Bangalore along with a group of Deaf friends. What an experience awaited us! I had never seen so many Deaf all together, under one roof and from different parts of the country. Together with foreigners from Africa and the US.

Finally, it was my turn to give a presentation. Interestingly,
all Hearing presenters delivered their talks in spoken
language using interpreters. I though, had prepared to
deliver in Sign Language and no, this was no big deal. By
then, I was already 2 years into Deaf association and
language and communicating freely with Deaf friends. My
subject was the Deaf from a Cultural and Linguistic
Perspective. Being the only Hearing person to present
content in Sign Language was ‘loudly’ appreciated by the
dear Deaf audience. We can enjoy the photographs, full of
happy memories!
