Sarah is a role model

I was born in a world of silence and brought up by supportive and caring parents. My elder brother, also deaf, works in Boston after completing his Communication Studies in Gallaudet University, USA. My parents sacrificed everything to care for us two Deaf sons.

People viewed me as physically handicapped. I felt stuck and ever so often challenged. Sometimes I just cried. But now when I look back, I have won!

In my life I had never seen hearing person choosing to become Deaf until I met Sarah. Who is she? Sarah volunteers to help people spiritually and enjoy a happier way of life. She helps the Deaf too. But she is so different. She examined deaf life, deaf way and deaf mind. I just admire the way she not only learned Sign Language but went into learning and accepting the Deaf way of life. It is not easy. After all, Sarah was born a Hearing person.

The deaf can communicate with the hearing in sign language. But the Deaf generally may not open their feelings to the hearing. The cultural divide is there! But I am so very happy that Sarah is a role model. I cannot compare her with anyone else in this.

Sarah broke the wall of the cultural divide. She proved to us Deaf that the Deaf and the Hearing can be one, we can share deeply and closely and freely every nuance of knowledge, spiritual information and just life!

We are free from the suffering brought upon us by what we view as a 'racist attitude.' Many hearing views us as a 'low' people. Sarah gave us many opportunities to show our abilities and prove that we are as good and sometimes even better than the hearing. We, the Deaf felt more confident after going through the training she gave us.

She has told the hearing who want to learn sign language or are signing that they should not be hypocritical with the Deaf. The hearing should try to love the Deaf sincerely. If they are not sincere, then the Deaf trust for hearing will be of the same quality.

Once while a group of Deaf and Hearing were traveling by train,Sarah signed with a service boy and he believed she was Deaf. So throughout the journey she spoke in signs with him and many other hearing people also continued accepting her as one of the Deaf. Sarah is not shameful to be counted as one of the Deaf. No wonder, we love her so much as one of us!

Ha, ha! When we argue, Sarah signs very fast. She is also very quick to defend the deaf when the hearing try to find fault with us.

Many deaf had earlier given up moral values because of having no hope. But Sarah touched the deaf and inspired them to make positive changes. Many Deaf were able to get unhooked from bad habits like say watching porn, smoking etc. We, the deaf now respect the hearing despite suffering unloving treatment from them. Many Deafies gave up Deaf politics. Instead, they have cultivated other useful habits and activities. Many, many Deaf now enjoy happier family lives and a united brotherhood in God's love. We are inspired and motivated to help other in times of distress. I am privileged to work with Sarah and see many Deaf from Kochi, Chennai, Mysore, Kolkotta, Belgaum, Hyderabad all united now in their love for the Divine One, united in their love and friendship for one another.

Whenever she is free, she always invites the deaf for fun and meaningful learning and discussion. Sometimes even VIPs and other senior people have invited her for parties and other functions. But if she can, she avoids to keep her appointment with us the Deaf. She just loves to be with us!

That God use her to help the Deaf achieve their best dream...a life of dignity today, loved by God and in a paradise earth under God's rule forever!
